Ham radio mic with boom arm and DIY Hand PTT for less then $60 !In this video, I demonstrates how to get for less then $60 a ham radio microphone with a boom arm and DIY (do it yourself) hand PTT. If you like please subscribe!
Keep in mind that you also need to verify your radio connection prior of connecting a new mic. As an example, Icom rig required a capacitor to prevent shorting the power (+8V DC) straight to ground, without the proper capacitor this could damage your radio.

Buying your First Amateur Radio - Ham Radio Q & Ahttp://www.jpole-antenna.com/2016/03/17/buying-your-first-amateur-radio-ham-radio-q-and-a/
Alright, you just got your amateur radio license and you’re itching to get on the air. But first you need a radio. What type should you get? As a volunteer examiner, I’ve been asked this question scores of times. It’s a common question of the new ham, and one that doesn’t have an easy answer. But hopefully in this video will shed some light on what’s available and help you make a good purchase decision.

MH-48 Mic on TYT TH-9800 TransceiverUPDATE: Apparently there is a resistor you can switch out in the MH-48 microphone, to make it work on this transceiver, however it may break compatibility with Yaesu transceiver though.

ICOM IC-7300 Boom mic with hand and foot PTT switchesI've had this mic sitting in a cupboard for a couple of years, I finally had a look at installing it and decided to put it on my ICOM IC 7300.
I am still waiting for two sockets to arrive from eBay so the wiring is temporary but it works. Transferring it to the proper sockets will be a 2 minute job.
The mic is an Ebay £20 condenser microphone and is being powered by a £30 phantom mic driver.
The hand switch was again bought from eBay for £10 and the foot switch was £3.
I have a 3.5mm and a 6.5mm socket on order so the wiring will be complete once they arrive.
A few people have asked for links to the equipment used in the video so here's a full list and eBay links.

I already had the mic and power supply so didn't have to buy them. If you were to buy everything I am using at current eBay prices, you can set this same system up for just £46.74. It's very easy to wire up and works very well.

Preppers with a FCC Technician License - BewareTelescopeMan discusses the new group to amateur radio - preppers. He encourages them to upgrade their FCC license and PRACTICE the HF bands especially the digital HF modes. Also includes a short discussion of EMP.
Having ONLY a small hand held 4 watt radio and not practicing all of the various HF modes will serve you poorly in a grid down. You must learn portable operations, proper antenna deployment, and HF radio operation to be fully prepared.
95.9 FM gets shut down by the FCC.flvits in true spirit of to use free space as long as it doesnt deny others the same natural rights. its in true spirit of to defy bogus laws & agencies. its in true spirit of to disolve such agencies & offices by cutting their budgets.
